Richard Dennis Tschirhart, 77, of Oak Park, died on Dec. 26, 2023. He was born Dec. 17, 1946 in Detroit and was the youngest of five children born to Helen and Allen Tschirhart. Richard graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit and worked for most of his career as a chemist at the City of Detroit Water & Sewerage Department.

With his former wife and friend, Esther Ingber, Richard was the proud and involved father of daughters Alison and Julianna Tschirhart. He was blessed with a wide circle of caring and fun friends, including those he met at WSU, an informal group dubbed “The Ledge.”

Richard loved the outdoors, geography, languages, genealogy, and music. He had traveled to 49 states, many of them while hitchhiking in the '60s and '70s or on road trips with his family. He was a formidable Trivial Pursuit player. His curiosity, intelligence, and generosity of spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Richard was preceded in death by his late parents, and his siblings, the late Tom (the late Dorothy) Tschirhart, the late Lois (the late George) Catlin and the late Al Tschirhart. He is survived by his daughters, his sister, Diane (Aubrey) Short, his sister-in-law, Frankie Tschirhart, and many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends.
