Antoinette "Toni" Tanay, MD, 94, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, died on 07 October 2022.

The Memorial Service was held at Temple Israel, 5725 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48323 on Sunday, 22 January 2023 at 2:00 PM .

Rabbi Harold Loss officiated. Dr. Tanay was a Holocaust Survivor, sent to Siberia with her parents Usher and Rebecca Hechtkopf and sister, Judith, where they spent the duration of the war. After the war, she attended the Ludwig Maximilian Medical School in Munich, Germany. She emigrated to the United States in 1951.

Antoinette Tanay is survived by her beloved sister, Judith Traub (Gerald Traub) her daughters, Anita Tanay Hersh, (Stephen Hersh) and Elaine Tanay (Brian "Mel" Meleski), her grandchildren, Aaron (Erin Ream), Sara and Jeremy Hersh, her great granddaughter, Violet Hersh, and her niece and nephew, Shari Brody (Todd Brody) and Jeffrey Traub (Marla Traub).

Our mother was a woman of great intellect, style and grace. Truly a survivor in every sense of the word. She loved her many friends, flowers, music, especially the opera, spoke 4 languages and her favorite pastime was reading Russian poetry. She was a great supporter of the Holocaust Museum in West Bloomfield and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. She was buried next to her parents in Israel, near Jerusalem.
