Esther Green Kirschner
Esther Green Kirschner, 92, of Huntington Woods, Michigan, died on 10 May 2021. Family members include: Esther was the beloved wife of 58 years of the late Professor Stanley Kirschner, devoted mother to Susan, Daniel, and daughter-in-law Zehra, and eternally loved grandmother to Leyla. Esther was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928 to Rose and Harry Green. She married Stanley Kirschner in June of 1950, on the same day that they both graduated from Brooklyn College where she earned her B. A.. Esther went on to earn a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work at Simmons College (now Simmons University) in Boston, MA. Esther and Stan settled in Detroit, where they raised Susan and Daniel. As a social worker, Esther worked primarily with children in public schools and in private practice. Since her retirement, many parents have communicated, to Dan and Susan, about how their child's life was vastly improved from having had Esther as their counselor/social worker. Esther was greatly fulfilled knowing she made a difference for the betterment of the lives of her patients. After retirement, Esther continued doing good deeds for the kids and the animals. She volunteered in several public schools in Tucson, Arizona as a children's tutor, and one of her favorite activities was being a docent at the Detroit Zoo where she especially loved working in the butterfly garden. Esther and Stanley were world travelers. Holiday gatherings often featured a slide show of their many trips across the globe. Esther is survived by her two children, Susan and Daniel (Zehra) and her granddaughter Leyla. Services and family gathering will be held post C-19 Pandemic.
