Dr. Stanley Hurwick Levy![]() Dr. Stanley Hurwick Levy, 94, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, died after sunset on 17 December 2020. Click ![]() Family members include: Beloved husband of 33 years of the late Suzanne Jackson Levy, and 25 years of the late Rita Halperin Levy. Cherished father of E.J. Levy and Robert (Randi) Levy. Adored grandfather of Stephanie (David Blumenthal) Levy, Daniel Levy, and Alana Goldstein Levy. Loving uncle of Allen Aronsson, Dr. Stig Aronsson, Steven Levy, Carol Levy, Louise Levy Schuster. Devoted son of the late David Levy and Eva Hurwick Levy. Brother of the late Dr. Marshall Levy. In lieu of Shiva, please add a tribute message and/or photos to the Memories Book. Click here for a link to the memories page. Stanley Hurwick Levy was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a child of The Great Depression and spent his childhood living in Dallas and Waco. Stanley entered the Navy V12 accelerated education program at Princeton University in January 1944. Five years later he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School at the age of 22. He retired in October 2019 after 70 years as a practicing physician. Dr. Levy was an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Wayne State University Medical School for 30 years. He was also a founding member of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, and the only physician to practice at Sinai Hospital from the day it opened until it closed. Dr. Levy maintained a private practice in Detroit from 1955 to 1994, and in Southfield from 1994 to 2019. Dr. Levy was an active supporter of many liberal and social causes including Planned Parenthood, ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, Temple Beth El, JARC, Jewish Senior Life, and Jewish Family Services. Dr. Stanley Hurwick Levy will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and the community he loved and supported. Metro Detroit’s Jewish funeral homes have agreed that families should follow the directive of Centers for Disease Control and restrict the size of gatherings to no more than 25.
