Born in 1930 to Sam and Ann Sapperstein, Florence Goldman graduated in 1948 from Central High School in Detroit, where she went on to Wayne State University, obtaining both her Bachelors and Masters in Education. It was during this time that she met her eventual life partner, Alvin Goldman. Married in 1953, the Goldman’s spent 59 wonderful years together, forging a life of service to teaching, administration and higher education.

Goldman began her education career teaching in Detroit and then moving on to the City of Southfield. It was in Southfield that she served for 21 years as a teacher and educator at John F. Kennedy Elementary School.

Upon her retirement in 1986, Goldman dedicated herself to working closely with WWII War Veterans and their families, as well as serving with distinction in the Jewish War Veterans.

Florence was also active with their beloved Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, serving in hundreds of volunteer capacities including Senior Programs and working with the youth at the Temple towards their education.

Florence was preceded in passing by her parents Sam and Ann, her loving husband Alvin and her eldest son Dr. Stephen Goldman.

Goldman is survived by her son Richard (Suzanne) of Coral Springs, Florida as well as numerous nieces and nephews scattered across the nation.

Metro Detroit’s Jewish funeral homes have agreed that families should follow the directive of Centers for Disease Control and restrict the size of gatherings to no more than 10, for at least the month of April.

For now, in-person funeral attendance will be limited to only immediate family. Otherwise, funerals may be viewed live and recorded on chapel websites.

Together, we thank the community for understanding during this unusual and challenging time.
