FUNERAL DETAILS
Edward A. KatzEdward A. Katz, 97, of Birmingham, Michigan, passed away, having spent the days before surrounded by his family in hospice care. He was born on May 28, 1919, in Detroit, Michigan, to Abraham and Rose Minnie Katz., died on 04 January 2017. The Funeral was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL - GARDEN CHAPEL on Thursday, 05 January 2017 at 12:30 PM . Rabbi David Nelson and Cantor Samuel Greenbaum officiated. The family of Edward A. Katz will be gathering through the afternoon of Friday, January 06 at the residence, 1587 Fairway Drive, Birmingham MI 48009. Religious services will be conducted at 5:00 Thursday evening. Mr. Katz was married for almost 60 years to the love of his life and business partner, Genevieve Kocot Katz, who preceded him in death in 2003. Their various endeavors included E and G Sales, Acme Sporting Goods, Target Sports, Birmingham Motors, and a number of other business and real estate ventures. Mr. Katz graduated from Detroit Central High School in 1937, and then joined his parents in business before serving in the United States Army in World War II. He was a member of the 10th Armored Division, 423rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was recognized as a concentration camp liberating unit. After meeting and marrying his beloved Genevieve, he and his wife embarked on a lifetime love affair that produced two children, Marsha Rose Katz (Bob Liston), and Roger Hershel Katz, and many successful businesses, starting in 1946 with Acme Sporting Goods. After the death of Genevieve, Mr Katz was blessed to meet the second love in his life, Lois Kadushin, and she survives him. Mr. Katz was known for his generosity, wit, civic mindedness, and true goodness. He was the first community member of the Beaumont Health Care Human Investigation Committee, serving for 30 years. He was also a long time member of the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the City of Birmingham Bond Committee, EMS Committee, Traffic Advisory Committee, the Birmingham Men's Club, the Woodward Avenue Business Association, and Woodward Action Association (WA3). Mr. Katz was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genevieve; his son Roger; and his brother, Samuel Katz. He is survived by his daughter Marsha Katz (Bob Liston) of Missoula, Montana; his beloved grandsons, Christopher Johnson (Tiffany) of Sonoma, California, and Stephen Johnson, of Singapore; the great-granddaughters he adored, Skylar Johnson, of Singapore, and Jaden and Genevieve Johnson of Sonoma, California; and nieces Margery Katz Blavin (Bruce) of California, and Deborah Katz of Washington State.
