Marian N. Ellias grew up in Trenton, Michigan, the only child of Clara and Ben. (Ben, a grocer, owned and operated "Uncle Ben's," a bar and eatery on West Road. He and his friend, the mayor, named a Trenton street after her - "Marian" - when she was a child.) In the seventh grade, she decided to become a journalist. She earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a Master's degree, with honors, in journalism from Columbia. She worked as a reporter and editor on papers including Newsday in Long Island and the New York Post. Eleanor Roosevelt was one of her favorite interviewees. Marian lived in Manhattan, near Union Square, just down the street from the Strand bookstore, for many years. She offered the hospitality of her apartment to generations of friends and cousins from Michigan. After retirement, she moved to Pompano Beach, Florida, where she was active in Womanshare, the Friends of Dickens, the League of Women Voters, and the Pompano Beach chapter of the American Association of University Women. She is survived by more than 25 loving cousins, and many friends.

It is suggested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Marian N. Ellias may do so by making a contribution to:
