Dr. Howard Haas Fink, 92, of Ann Arbor, Michigan (formally of Dayton, Ohio), died on 04 April 2017 in the company of his family.

Funeral and interment will be held at Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday, 07 April 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Rabbi Josh Whinston will officiate.

Following interment, the family will gather at the residence 2361 Placid Way, Ann Arbor MI 48105 through the late afternoon. Religious Services will be conducted at this residence on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Howard Fink was a loving son and brother, WWII combat veteran, psychotherapist, husband, dedicated father and grandfather, mentor and friend. Growing up in a close knit family in Chicago, he attended Haight Elementary School and Sullivan High School. He joined the army and saw combat in WWII (102nd Infantry, Ozark Division). After the war, he received a Ph.D. (psychology) from Michigan State University, married Dr. Barbara Kane, had three children, and moved to Kettering, Ohio. He was a child psychologist at the Dayton Childrens Psychiatric Hospital before establishing a private practice in psychotherapy. He trained in Gestalt therapy with Dr. Fritz Perls, was the first Fellow of the American Academy of Group Therapy, Fellow in the American Academy of Psychotherapy, and Clinical Professor, Wright State University, Department of Psychology. A highly respected leader in his field, his skill, insight, and compassion brought comfort to thousands.

He traveled extensively, was an accomplished photographer, loved art, literature, film, music of all genres (he saw the Who perform Tommy in 1968), and sports (he saw Babe Ruth hit his famous home run). He was preceded in death by his parents, Maury Finkelstein (z"l) and Ida Haas Finkelstein Muffson (z"l) and his brother Edward Fink. He is survived by his brother Terry Fink and sister-in-law Laura Fink, his children Meredith Kaye Churchill (London), Dr. John Kane Fink (Ann Arbor), Nancy Ann Laurence (Eugene), daughter-in-law Cynthia Fink and sons-in-law David Amundson and Wainwright Churchill, and grandchildren Alexander, Cosima, and Gabriel Churchill, Erica, Jared, and Isaac Fink, and Evan and Cora Amundson. He was married successively to Dr. Barbara Kane, Nancy Piedescalzi, and Larma Hart (z"l). All who knew him at length are at least in part who they are because of him. Highly admired and deeply loved, he will be missed and in our hearts forever. His memory will always be a blessing.
