Family members include: Beloved wife of the late Seymour Blumenthal and the late Dr. Irving Bernstein. Cherished mother of Susan Merrick, Merrick (Elizabeth) Blumenthal and Lee (Jerry) Frank. Proud grandmother of Marissa and Michael Blumenthal. Loving sister of the late Seymour (the late Mollye) Berman and the late Dr. Leonard Berman. Dear sister-in-law of Judy Berman. She is also survived by her wonderful and caring staff and friends at the Fleischman Residence in West Bloomfield. Leonore mentored hundreds of her students while teaching elementary and middle school gym and ancient history in the Huntington Woods and the Berkley school districts. She had retired with 15 years of teaching at the district. After meeting her second husband Dr. Irving Bernstein, she had a wonderful life and traveled the world and finally had a chance to visit the ancient sites and ruins of Rome and Greece which she taught in her history classes. Her students became world recognized economists, doctors, educators, entrepreneurs and business men and women under her tutelage. Her emphasis on higher education and athletics motivated her children and grandchildren to become excellent students and athletes themselves while earning advanced degrees. She was a trail blazer for women's rights and education, gaining her degree in social work from Wayne State University in 1946, when women rarely attended college. She added her teaching degree in the 1960s, where she taught Sunday school at Temple Israel and Young Israel Nursery School. She started her public school teaching career at Burton Elementary in Huntington Woods, MI. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends and family on the links. The family will be gathering on Tuesday evening from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Fleischman Residence, which is located at 6710 W. Maple Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48322. Religious services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
