David Duboff was born October 19, 1947, in Los Angeles County, CA to Gregory and Judith Duboff. He moved with his parents to Ann Arbor in 1958 where he attended University High School. His favorite activity during his junior and senior high school years was participation in Junior Theatre, where he performed as Rumpelstiltskin, the Wizard of Oz and in many other roles, to the delight of many of the children of Ann Arbor. He attended the University of Michigan where he joined the staff of the Michigan Daily but left school after three years to devote himself full-time to social activism, primarily anti-Vietnam war resistance. David returned to U of M to complete his final year, graduating in 1971. David spent the next six years in Lynn, Massachusetts, where his continuing concern with social justice issues expressed itself in tenants’ rights and rent control campaigns; making nutritious food available to hundreds of low-income families by developing a food-purchasing co-op; and more. During these years, he obtained a Masters’ Degree from Goddard College in Urban Planning. After returning to Ann Arbor in 1977, David continued his work on behalf of tenants and homeless people, while working toward a Masters of Social Work degree from U of M, which he obtained in 1989. At the same time, he was a consumer advocate on behalf of the mentally ill and for several years an employee of the Washtenaw County Community Health Center. In 2001, the People’s Progressive Network of Washtenaw County, of which David was a founding member, began to publish a newsletter, the People’s Voice. David was an editor of the newsletter for six years. David was widely admired and respected for his wit, his integrity, his sense of justice, and the persistence with which he struggled through many personal obstacles over many years. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Gregory Duboff (1996), and Judith Duboff (2007), and by his uncle Ben Duboff. He is survived by his aunt, Dr. Naomi Katz of Berkeley, CA, and by several cousins and caring friends.
