Mona GreenbaumMona Greenbaum, 78, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, died on 27 November 2024. The Funeral was held at Congregation Beth Shalom, 14601 W. Lincoln, Oak Park, Michigan on Sunday, 01 December 2024 at 11:00 AM . Rabbi David Nelson and Rabbi Robert Gamer officiated. Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial Park, 28500 W 6 Mile Road, Livonia MI 48152.
Family members include: Beloved wife of Cantor Samuel Greenbaum. Cherished mother of Rabbi Alexander (Rabbi Amy) Greenbaum, Dr. Shira (Jerry) Gordinier, and Ilana (John Sutton) Greenbaum. Proud grandmother of Jerry Gordinier, Jr., Jennifer (Geordan) Komos, Mick Gordinier, Matthew Gordinier, Elizabeth Gordinier, Justin Greenbaum, Harrison Greenbaum, Myles Greenbaum, Ellie Greenbaum, Olive Greenbaum, and Miriam Greenbaum. Adoring great-grandmother of Aubrey and Landon Komos. Loving sister of Linda (Shelly) Lichtenstein. Devoted daughter of the late Miriam and the late Monroe Leibowitz. Mona Greenbaum, a native of Newark, N.J., graduated magna cum laude from Kean College of New Jersey with a major in elementary education. She studied mathematics at Portland State University, then enrolled in an M.B.A. program at Wayne State University and earned a secondary teaching certificate from Mercy College. She taught at Akiva Hebrew Day School for seven years, and taught elementary and high school mathematics in the Berkley School District for more than 12 years. She also piloted an elementary math specialists program. After retiring from Berkley in 1997, Mona taught part time at Hillel Day School in Farmington Hills, where she created a math enrichment program. She continued to teach in her home. The family will not be receiving guests prior to or after the funeral service. The family will be gathering privately immediately following the interment. Shiva will be held on Sunday evening 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Dr. Shira and Jerry Gordinier, 7061 Trailway Court, West Bloomfield, MI 48322. Religious services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Shiva will continue Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. at Congregation Beth Shalom, 14601 W. Lincoln, Oak Park, MI 48237.
