Carol Jean Litt

Carol Jean Litt, 89, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, died on 19 September 2024.

Carol Jean Litt, 89, passed away peacefully in the evening of September 19, 2024 while in the care of the Henry Ford West Bloomfield hospital, not far from her family home on Pleasant Lake in Oakland County, Michigan. She was remarkably healthy up until August 2024 and led a full and happy life. Carol, or “CJ” as she was often called, was an avid bird-watcher, an accomplished sailor and a dedicated reader. She was also a devoted fan of Michigan Football, and was thrilled to see them thrive in 2023 as undefeated National Champions!

Carol’s love of the water, nature and boating was sparked in childhood where she grew up spending each summer trailer-camping in multiple state parks around Michigan. Her father Louis Kirshner (Cora) worked for the US Corps of Engineers and was responsible for going out into the Great Lakes each summer in order to create the original depth charts and maps still used by boaters to this day. She also travelled to Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico to participate in EarthWatch trips to study various nature-related issues.

Carol grew up in the City of Detroit on Lauder street, not far from her Alma MaterCooley High School, where she was the editor of the school newspaper, the Cooley Cardinal. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout all the way thru her high school years, and later served as a troop leader when her own daughters were of scouting age.

CJ earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science from the University of Michigan, and worked as a Medical Technologist at Detroit’s Grace Hospital before she became a full time Mom. Later, she became the bookkeeper for her husband’s family business, Litt Electric Company, until it closed in 2003.

After being introduced by her brother, Carol and Nahman “Ray” Litt were married for 64 active years. Carol was highly regarded as the steadfast facilitator of Ray’s many community and socially-conscious involvements, along with his myriad of other activities. She was also the proud Mother of Deborah Stuart, Sandra Litt (Bret Fahnstrom), and Mark Litt (Kate Hunt) and the loving Bubie of Trevor Fahnstrom. She was the older sister to two siblings, brother Robert “Bob” Kirshner and sister Mary Klingsten, to whom she fondly referred to using the acronym “MMS” or “Mary My Sister.”

* Plans for a Memorial Gathering will be announced at a later date.

Many thanks for your thoughts and well-wishes to the Litt Family at this time of change. We also send thanks for your friendship, and blessings to you and your family for a happy life. And the next time you hear a bird chirping or see flying free across the sky, please think of Carol Jean Litt and know she will always be with us!
