He grew up as a kid working at his father's drug store, Harmon Drugs, then attended Wayne State and Ferris State graduating with a pharmacy degree and ascended to the role Executive Vice President and General Manager for Arnold Drugs. Seeking more challenge, Marv enrolled in University of Detroit Law School and ultimately ventured into the mortgage business, transitioning to a successful real estate career as a mortgage banker, real estate developer and syndicator. He was a consummate jokester who was always ready with a quip from his deep repertoire of awful Dad jokes, which paradoxically will now be missed dearly.
