Dr. Barbara Threatt Appelman

Dr. Barbara Threatt Appelman, 87, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died on 05 February 2023.

Dr. Threatt was born December 2, 1935, to Jesse “Curly” Threatt and Jesse Faye Threatt, née Branson. She was born and raised in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she attended Rock Hill High School. Dr. Threatt graduated from Winthrop College in 1957 and was one of the first women to graduate from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in 1961. She did her residency at Wayne State University.

Dr. Threatt was the founder and director of The Breast Cancer Detection Center at the University of Michigan. In 1983 she opened her own practice, the Comprehensive Breast Center of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she was loved and admired by the thousands of patients she cared for. She retired in 2019.

Dr. Threatt loved her time with her circle of friends, going thrift store shopping, antiquing, visiting her favorite places along the New Jersey shore, enjoying long dinners, and time with her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Avery (Cindi) and Brett, and four grandchildren, Lillianna, Branson, Harper and Oxford.

A private memorial is set for a later date.
