Mark Brian Eichner



Mark Brian Eichner, 79, of Commerce Township, Michigan, died on 03 January 2021.

The Funeral was A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE on Tuesday, 05 January 2021 at 1:00 PM .

Rabbi Aaron Starr and Hazzan David Propis officiated.

Family members include:
Beloved husband of 57 years of Margaret Eichner; Cherished father of Adam (Rachel Portnoy) Eichner, and Michele (Eli) Saulson; Father in Law of the late Adam Goldstein; Loving Zaidy of Kobi and Jonah Eichner, Laela, Isaac, Sophia and Fara Saulson; Sisters-in-Law Donna (Jim) Brennan and Susan Leiter. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The Chevra, the Schwartses, the Rochinds and the special caregivers of many years Brittany Drzinski and Sean Prescott. Devoted son of the late Joseph and the late Esther Eichner, and Son in Law of the late Manny and the late Fara Silverman; Brother of the late Phillip Eichner.

Mark Brian Eichner defines the word mensch. He truly is the Lamed Vovnik of his generation; Kind, sensitive, brilliant, funny, loving and caring. He changed so many lives as a teacher and Guidance Counselor. He was first a teacher quickly becoming a Counselor at Berkley High School. He led Junior Congregation at B’nai Moshe for more than 35 years and at Shaarey Zedek for many years. He taught Drivers Education part time and in the summer at Berkley, Novi and Ferndale where he was also the administrator for adult education.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret Silverman Eichner; son Adam (Rachel Portnoy) Eichner of Ann Arbor and daughter Michele (Eli) Saulson of Franklin; grandchildren Kobi and Jonah Eichner, Laela, Isaac, Sophia and Fara Saulson; sisters-in-law Donna (Jim) Brennan and Susan Leiter. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, The Chevra, the Schwartzes, the Rockinds and special special caregivers of many years Brittany Drzinski and Sean Prescott. He was the son of the late Esther and the late Joseph Eichner, brother of the late Phillip Eichner and son-in-law of the late Fara and the late Manny Silverman.

Metro Detroit’s Jewish funeral homes have agreed that families should follow the directive of Centers for Disease Control and restrict the size of gatherings to no more than 25.

For now, in-person funeral attendance will be limited to only immediate family. Otherwise, funerals may be viewed live and recorded on chapel websites.
