Rabbi Shalom Kantor officiated.

Irv was born in Kremenets, Ukraine (then part of Poland), the youngest of three children, and emigrated to Canada at the age of 3. He grew up in Windsor, Ontario, and served in the Canadian army in WWII. After his marriage in 1952 to his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Simon, he moved to Detroit. Irv was a respected architect and owned his own firm for many years. His gregarious nature and wit served him well in both his professional life and volunteer activities. He was a Past President of both B’nai Brith Oak Woods Lodge and Congregation B’nai Moshe. He was the brother of the late Leonard Lopatin of Toronto, Ontario, and the late Charlotte (the late Gordon) Strosberg of West Bloomfield.

In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, he will be sorely missed by his children Judy, Donna, and Jerry (MJ), his granddaughters, Rachel, Jennifer, and Anna, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law (Beverly and Tom Klimko, Bitsy and Rabbi Milton Simon, and Rene Lopatin), his nieces and nephews, and his dedicated caregivers over the past year.

Metro Detroit’s Jewish funeral homes have agreed that families should follow the directive of Centers for Disease Control and restrict the size of gatherings to no more than 10, for at least the month of April.

For now, in-person funeral attendance will be limited to only immediate family. Otherwise, funerals may be viewed live and recorded on chapel websites.

Together, we thank the community for understanding during this unusual and challenging time.
