Jack Levitt



Jack Levitt, 90, of Bingham Farms, Michigan, died on 12 March 2019.

The Funeral was held at The David Oppenheim Memorial Chapel at Machpelah Cemetery, 21701 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220 on Thursday, 14 March 2019 at 2:00 PM .

Rabbi Harold Loss officiated.

The family of Jack Levitt will be gathering through the afternoon of Friday, March 15 at the residence, 32777 Bingham Lane, Bingham Farms MI 48025.

Religious services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

The family welcomes friends on Friday until 5:00 p.m.

Family members include:
Beloved husband of the late Margaret Helen Levitt. Cherished father of David Levitt, Richard Levitt, and Mark Levitt. Devoted son of the late Benjamin and the late Gussie Levitt. Brother of the late Alfred Levitt and the late Robert Israel Levitt.

Jack is a New York City native – the Bronx, specifically – but has called Detroit home since 1940. A graduate of Central High School, Jack attended University of Michigan. Upon graduation in 1952 he enlisted in the United States Navy during which time he married his wife of 55 years, Margaret. Jack was honorably discharged in 1954, moved to Livonia where he and Margaret raised three sons, and he began coaching little league baseball and basketball teams. He was a high school counselor after earning his master’s degree from U of M in 1956. He also owned a commercial driving school. The Bingham Farms resident was known as “Legs” while an undergraduate at Michigan where he played basketball during his sophomore, junior and senior years. Inducted to the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
