Mr. Richard Heavenrich, 91, of Southfield, Michigan, died on 20 August 2007.

Richard Heavenrich, former faculty member at Cranbrook School, Bloomfield Hills, had resided at The Trowbridge center for assisted living in Southfield, MI.
A native of Detroit, MI, he was born April 11, 1916, to John and Marian Heavenrich, was graduated from Cranbrook School in 1933 and Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 1937. Shortly before Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the U.S. Army, was assigned to a field artillery unit which engaged the Japanese army in its attempt to capture the Aleutian Islands. Later, he was promoted to captain and fought in and helped recapture the Philippine Islands in the Pacific theater of war.
After WWII he earned a Masters Degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, then taught in the public schools of Quincy and Newton, Massachusetts before moving to Cranbrook as a math teacher in 1955. Ben Snyder, former assistant Headmaster and Director of Special Programs at Cranbrook, said "Richard was known as a teacher who placed no limits on time, energy or dedication in solving a student's academic or personal problems. His love and understanding of mathematics enriched the lives of countless Cranbrook students in need of his help."
He retired in 1976 to assist his brother, Walter, with management of Whaling's Mens Wear in Detroit.
Mr. Heavenrich was married to the late Sally Brown Heavenrich, the mother of his surviving children, Louis D. (Sue) Heavenrich, Ted R. and Alan S. (Joan) Heavenrich. She died in 1972. In 1982 he moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he married Lenore Ginsberg Ruskin Heavenrich who predeceased him. Besides his children, Mr. Heavenrich is survived by five grandchildren and a brother, Louis B. (Evalyn) Heavenrich of Huntington Woods, MI
Mr. Heavenrich was an active member of Temple Emanu-El, Oak Park, Michigan. Services will be conduced by Rabbi Joseph Klein at Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 West Nine-Mile Road, Southfield, MI, at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2007.
