Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend and lived a life devoted to his family and his passion for the arts, painting, opera, symphony, and travel.

Born in Detroit on October 17, 1919, Eddie was the son of Latvian immigrant Abraham Sherman and Lithuanian immigrant Ida Schneider. They were part of the close-knit Hastings Street Jewish neighborhood. Eddie attended Cass Technical High School's Arts Program then Pratt Institute in New York. World War II interrupted his career as a comic book illustrator drawing the Ted Paris series for Harvey Comics in New York. He was drafted into the Army Air Corps and stationed in England supported B-26 bombing raids on the German-occupied French coast. Following WWII, he used the GI Bill to fund his art and painting studies in Paris where he developed his cubist style in the studios of Metzinger, Gleizes, Leger, and Lhote, and later painted in Florence.

Eddie returned to the States where he founded a silk screen printing company and continued to paint. He married his wife Helen in 1960 and became a loving and supportive father to her three daughters, Linda, Julie, and Cathy, and later, devoted father to daughter Amy. He will always be remembered for his gentle nature, beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, for all the many questions he always asked, his love of politics, and so many funny stories.

He is survived by loving daughters Linda (Charles) Soberman, Julie (the late Sheldon) Blair, and Cathy (Kenneth) Shiovitz. Devoted Papa of Lisa Glazer, Tracey (Scott Gilden) Jackier, David (Jennifer) Soberman, Stephanie (Jason Gurzell) Blair, Michael (Jennifer) Blair, Dr. Stacey (Seth) Cohen, and Daniel (Hannah Lidman) Shiovitz. Adoring Great-Papa of Lilah Glazer, Hannah Glazer, Kaiya Jackier, Asher Gilden, Jonah Soberman, Drew Soberman, Ezra Shiovitz and Elias Shiovitz.

Edward Sherman was the husband of the late Professor Helen Sylvia Sherman, father of the late Amy Phyllis Sherman, and brother of the late Dr. Phillip Sherman.
