Charles FrankelCharles Frankel, 89, of Huntington Woods, Michigan, died on 27 October 2016. The Funeral was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL on Monday, 31 October 2016 at 1:00 PM . Rabbi Avie Shapiro officiated. Click to watch a video of the recorded service. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
The family of Charles Frankel will be gathering through the evening of Saturday, November 05 at the residence of Lora Frankel, 13135 Sherwood Drive, Huntington Woods MI 48070. The phone number is 248-752-0227. Religious services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening. The family will gather for shiva following interment on Monday afternoon through 11:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings beginning at 7:00 p.m. through 11:00 p.m. The family will also gather for shiva on Saturday evening after sunset. Family members include: Beloved husband of 50 years of Lora Frankel. Cherished father of Rabbi Shimshon Meir (Tziporah) Frankel. Loving Tatty of Leah Malka, Esther, Devorah, Shmuel Chaim, Miriam and Gavriel. Devoted son of the late Sam and the late Mollie Frankel. Dear brother of the late Donald and the late Monte Frankel. Mr. Frankel played basketball and baseball for Michigan State University from 1944-1945, and Wayne State University from 1947-1950. He also played with U.S. Navy Oklahoma Skyjackets basketball team from 1945-1947. At Michigan State, he was the first freshman basketball player to win a letter. At Wayne State he pitched a no-hitter, won Best Athlete Award, and was elected to the Hall of Fame. At Northern High School, he won nine letters and selected to the All-State basketball team. Mr. Frankel was inducted into the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
