Lawrence "Lawrie" Silverman



Lawrence "Lawrie" Silverman, 100, of West Bloomfield, died on 28 July 2016.

The Funeral was held at GRAVESIDE on Monday, 01 August 2016 at 10:30 AM .

Rabbi Shalom Kantor officiated.

The family of Lawrence "Lawrie" Silverman will be gathering through the evening of Monday, August 01 at the residence of Paula and Norman Miller, 30864 Sunderland Drive, Farmington Hills MI 48331. The phone number is 248-661-5271.

A graduate of Michigan State University's School of Agriculture, he worked for the Dept. of Agriculture in Washington before being drafted into the Army. Mr. Silverman was a member of the 180th Port Company with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He saw service in Europe and was part of the Normandy invasion.

Upon returning to civilian life, he worked with his father if the family store, Silver Stores and later was a manager for Mary Jane Shoes in both their Wonderland and 7 Mile/Livernois stores.

During retirement, he traveled extensively with Elderhostels and attended lectures presented by IRP (the Institute for Retired Persons). He was also an avid reader preferring anything about WWII.

Mr. Silverman was the beloved son of the late Charles and Pauline Silverman; brother and brother-in-law of the late Milton (the late Jeanette) Silverman, the late Harriett (the late David) Goldman and the late Leah Hoffman; he was also the uncle of the late Pamela Hoffman Lazar. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Paula (Norman) Miller, Alan (Sandra) Goldman, Marc Hoffman and Ira Hoffman and their children, and other relatives and friends.
