A lifelong Michigan resident, Zate was beloved for his humor, heart and humility - and nationally recognized for the voice that made him one of the industry's leading voice actors.

Known as "The Ultimate Mensch," Zate grew up in Southfield and realized at a young age he wanted to work in broadcasting. He began with an internship at WXYZ radio in high school, and later became an on-air personality with Detroit area radio stations like Lite FM and Magic 105.1.

While co-founding and running the successful IMAGE Teleproducts (formerly Liberty Hill), which provides on-hold messaging for companies around the country, Zate continued pursuing his goal of taking his voice acting career to the next level. He worked hard to perfect his craft, and it paid off in national recognition.

Zate's voice was heard announcing shows including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Mike & Molly, The Tyra Banks Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He was also a character voice in Nickelodeon's animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Zate narrated many popular documentaries and was the voice heard on countless movie trailers for major studios. Zate was also the voice of numerous advertising campaigns for companies such as Chevrolet and Nike. Rising to the top of his field, Zate was honored by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) as one of the leading voice over artists and celebrities headlining the annual SAG Foundation Poker Classic fundraiser in 2013.

Zate was the beloved husband of Cindy Zate; adoring father of Lucy Zate; devoted son of Ileene Zate and the late Seymour Zate; son-in-law of the late Marilyn Attenson and the late Dr. Myron Attenson; brother of Kary (Christine) Zate and Ronald Zate (Marshall Sprung); loving uncle of Mathieu Zate, Lillie Zate, Julia Zate, Charlotte Zate-Sprung, Spencer Zate-Sprung, and Benjamin Gurfinkel; brother-in-law of Jill Attenson Gurfinkel; and nephew of Alan and Sue Vosko and Gladys Zate. He is also survived by a "boatload" of relatives and friends.
