Joan Eleanor Schloessinger Chesler PhDJoan Eleanor Schloessinger Chesler PhD, 74, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died on 16 March 2016. The Funeral was held at Beth Israel Congregation of Ann Arbor on Monday, 21 March 2016 at 10:00 AM . Rabbi Robert Dobrusin officiated. Click to watch a video of the recorded service. The family of Joan Eleanor Schloessinger Chesler PhD will be gathering through the evening of Thursday, March 24 at the residence, 5 Westbury Court, Ann Arbor Mi 48105. The phone number is 734-663-0532. Religious Services will be held at 7:40 P.M. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Evenings. Family members include: Beloved wife of Professor Mark Chesler; Cherished mother of Deborah (David) Char and Naomi Chesler (Dan) Sidney; Loving Omi of Jonathan Simmons, Benjamin Char, Josephine, Amelia and Ruby Sidney; Sister of Fred (Kathleen) Schloessinger; Devoted daughter of the late Elsbeth and the late Willi Schloessinger. Joan was the Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Corner Health Center for nearly 3 decades; Director of the Washtenaw Alliance for Children and Youth (WACY); and a Consultant for the Washtenaw Area Council for Children. An inventive and passionate spirit, Joan cared deeply for the lives and health of young people. When she retired from The Corner Health Center she served on the boards of several organizations concerned with these issuesand mentored a new generation of non-profit leaders. She was part of a growing circle of strong and caring women committed to making a difference in our community. More than anything, Joan loved spending time with her husband of 52 yearsand her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. She kept in constant touch with her brother and extended family. She was always on hand with presents and a bounty of love, and in turn she received their love with grace and charm. A committed chocoholic, Joan had excellent taste in food and loved to travel. She faced the health challenges late in her life with courage and always with a view to the future.Joan was truly a woman of valor with a zest for life, appreciation of beauty and immeasurable love. Her memory and legacy will be for a blessing. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Garden at Arborcrest.
