Stanley Berent, 74, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died on 25 August 2015.

The Funeral was held at Temple Beth Emeth, 2309 Packard St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 on Friday, 28 August 2015 at 10:00 AM .

The family of Stanley Berent will be gathering through the evening of Sunday, August 30 at the residence, 2645 Overridge Dr., Ann Arbor MI 48104. The phone number is 734-996-4766.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the residence immediately after burial on Friday and until 5:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 29, 7:00-9:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, August 30, 4:00-7:30 p.m.

Shiva will conclude with a Religious Service at the residence at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Beloved husband of Joy Berent. Cherished father of Melissa (Joey) Ricker, Alison (Nathan) Berent-Spilson and Rachel (Kevin) Fogelberg. Loving grandfather of Max Berent-Spilson, Zeke Berent-Spilson, Mila Berent-Spilson, Jason Spangler, Molly Fogelberg, Ryan Fogelberg, and Angelina Ricker. Dear brother of Jerry (Rusti) Berent. Uncle of Rebecca (David) Fien and Jenna Berent. Brother-in-law of Frankie McKeever and Cathie Booth. Nieces and nephews Jamie Booth, Dominic Booth, Mary Joy (Daniel) Cordero and Monica (John) Shinn.

Stan received his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University in 1966, a Master's from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1967, and his Doctorate in Psychology from Rutgers University in 1972. He completed a Clinical Internship at the National Institute of Mental Health, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, in Washington, DC. He also completed the Group Training Program within the Overholser Training and Research Division, National Institute of Mental Health. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963 and was honorably discharged.

At the University of Virginia, he was an Assistant then Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry where he was the Co-Director of the Psychological Assessment Program and the Director of the Psychology Training Program. Coming to the University of Michigan in 1979 he was an Associate Professor and then Full Professor of Psychology with a primary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and appointments in the Department of Neurology and the Department of Psychology. He became a Professor, Emeritus, Active, in 2005. At Michigan, Stan was the Chief of the Psychology Service at the Ann Arbor VAMC from 1979 to 1986 and the Director of the Neuropsychology Program at the University from 1979 to 1993 and Chief of Psychology from 1993 to 2001. He also was Co-Director of the Neurobehavioral Toxicology Program at the University from 1997 to 2007. At the University of Michigan, he served on many Medical School and University committees, including chairing the Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs (SACUA), the Department of Psychiatry Committee on Appointments and Promotions, the Medical School Financial Aid Committee, the UM Medical School Institutional Review Board (IRBMED), and the UM Tenure Committee.

He was successfully funded by numerous NIH and Industry sponsored grants and received a number of national and international honors and awards. He was a member of multiple professional societies and served on editorial boards for several journals, as well as serving on NIH study sections. He held visiting professorships at both national and international universities and published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, 22 book chapters, co-authored four books and co-edited two books. He has mentored countless medical students, residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty at the University of Virginia and the University of Michigan, always with great caring and attention.
