David HoptmanDavid Hoptman, 90, of Huntington Woods, Michigan, died on 24 April 2015. The Memorial Service was held at Oak Park Comm. Center, 14300 Oak Park Blvd on Friday, 05 June 2015 at 1:00 PM . David Hoptman of Huntington Woods, Michigan, passed away on April 24, 2015. Born in Detroit on December 27, 1924, he grew up with parents Sarah and Morris Hoptman and sister Yetta (Trustman), who predeceased him. He attended Wayne University (now Wayne State University [WSU]), where he received a master's in social work. The majority of his career was spent as a social worker at Jewish Family Service in Southfield. David was an accomplished photographer and aficionado of music and film, making frequent presentations on these subjects to the Jewish Community Center's Institute of Retired Professionals (IRP), including Music Lovers; Seniors of Active Retirement (SOAR; affiliated with WSU), of which he was a faculty member; Oakland Community College's Adult Learning Institute; Fox Run retirement community; and other organizations. David was predeceased by wives Martha (Ray) Cohen, Muriel Kingston Hoptman, and Janis Waxenberg. He is survived by children Claire Wendy Cohen of Tallahassee; Matthew Hoptman and his wife, Marla Abrams, of New York City; Ari Hoptman of Minneapolis; Maya Hoptman, her husband, (John) Christopher Kaltwasser, and their daughter Julia Kaltwasser; as well as his partner, Barbara Keidan; and in-laws Paul and Barbara Goodman. Donations in his honor may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Jewish United Fund, Village in the Woods, or the charity of your choice.
