Dr. Melvin Robert "Bob" Yoffee
Dr. Melvin Robert "Bob" Yoffee of Huntington Woods, MI, died on 21 December 2014. The Funeral was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL on Sunday, 04 January 2015 at 10:00 AM . Rabbi Joseph Krakoff officiated. The family of Dr. Melvin Robert "Bob" Yoffee will be gathering through the evening of Sunday, January 04 at the residence, 13130 Sherwood, Huntington Woods MI 48070. The phone number is 248-541-0189. Religious services will be held at 7 PM Sunday evening. February 22, 1920 to December 21, 2014 Born in Glens Falls, New York to Samuel Yoffee and Rose Diskin Yoffee, Bob lived in 11 places before settling in Huntington Woods for the next 66 years where he served as president of Friends of the Huntington Woods Library for several years. He graduated from Central High School in Detroit, attended Wayne State for undergraduate studies, and The University of Michigan Dental School, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He began his dental career as a US Navy Lieutenant in the Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific during WW II. Dr. Yoffee practiced dentistry for fifty-three years in Detroit and Birmingham. Bob was an avid and skilled athlete. He played squash, handball, baseball, and fast-pitch softball in his younger years; in his retirement years, golf and tennis. A crossword and Sudoku enthusiast, he busied his later years always with a pen and paper in his hands. He enjoyed his home woodshop, building his office cabinetry and a custom wooden play structure for his children. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Lurie Yoffee; son Murray (Chong) Yoffee of Gardnerville, NV, daughter Kay (Dennis) Brown of Menlo Park, CA, son Hanley (Mary-Anne) Yoffee of Los Gatos, CA; grandchildren Risha (Michael) Neil, Berry (Matthew Rosen) Brown, Ian Brown, Angela (Gabe) Borland, Christopher Bosward, and Tery Hung; great-grandchildren Darya and Jacob Neil, Ellie Rosen, Simon and Paisley Borland; sister-in-law, Lois Lurie Frank. Dr. Yoffee was the loving brother of the late Leah Yoffee Safran and Ada Yoffee Solomon. He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Hyman Safran, Arthur Solomon, and Richard Lurie.
