Family members include:
Mr. Shwedel is survived by his beloved wife, Dorie Shwedel and son Ari Shwedel and daughter Merritt Shwedel, both of New York City, brother of Carol (Barry) Kline, Niskayuna, NY, brother-in-law of Betty Lowenthal, West Bloomfield, and the late Marion (Alvin) Golman. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the loving son of the late Thelma and Leo Shwedel.

Judaism was the core of Mr. Shwedel's life. He lived the three pillars of Judaism: worship, study and benevolence. Mr. Shwedel started his week at synagogue, where he was honored to be a Gabbai, assisting in organizing the service. The study of Torah was his passion and he personified benevolence, counseling and advising hundreds of people from all backgrounds over his lifetime.

He loved the practice of law and had a distinguished legal career that stretched from his days as an Oakland Country prosecutor to a litigator and general counselor in his Village of Franklin office. Mr. Shwedel recently rejoiced in attending his 50-year reunion at the University of Michigan Law School, where he was regularly invited to be a judge in the Law School's moot court. He treated both his clients and his adversaries with respect and dignity, and never sought attention for himself. Mr. Shwedel served as a mentor and role model for dozens of attorneys.

Mr. Shwedel was a devoted and supportive husband to Dorie and cherished their life together. As a father, Mr. Shwedel was committed to his children in every way, encouraging excellence and supporting their dreams. Mr. Shwedel reveled in watching Ari and Merritt lead independent lives in New York City. He had an endless wellspring of love for his extended family and many friends.

Mr. Shwedel lived life to the fullest, relishing every holiday with his family, his yearly golf outings with his boyhood friends, and vacationing on the beach with his family in Cape Cod and Sag Harbor. His was a full life filled with the love and respect of family, friends, clients, and the community.
