Sidney L. Barbas, 94, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, died on 19 October 2014. The Memorial Service was held at The David Oppenheim Memorial Chapel at Machpelah Cemetery, 21701 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220 on Wednesday, 22 October 2014 at 2:00 PM . The family of Sidney L. Barbas will be gathering through the evening of Thursday, October 23 at the residence of Andrew and Lisa Barbas, 4924 Champlain Circle, West Bloomfield MI 48323. The phone number is 248-855-3444. Religious Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday Evenings. The family requests that visiting begin on Thursday starting at 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Family members include: Beloved husband of the late Elaine Barbas; Cherished father of Andrew (Lisa) Barbas and Dr. Nancy Barbas (Dr. Jonathan Sugar); Loving Papa of Adrienne Barbas (Ben Croft), Matthew Barbas, Brian Barbas, Abby Sugar (Sylvie Lardeux) and Leigh Sugar; Brother of Mollie (the late Harry Lipsitz, Lottie (the late Aaron) Gellerman, the late Nathan (the late Marion) Barbas,the late Sarah (the late William) Gutman, and the late Dora (the late Jack) Kaplan; Brother in Law of the late Morris (the late Anne) Werney, the late Sam Werney, the late Ida (the late Allen) Kramer, the late Bess (the late Barney) Mills the late Violet (the late Harry) Bayer and the late Rose (the late Harry) Perlman. Also survived by his loving caregiver Cynthanee Green and his beloved Peepers. Sidney L. Barbas, as Chairman of York Properties, Inc., had been exclusively involved in the real estate business for over 40 years. Prior to that time, he owned and operated a significant chain of drug stores. This chain, operating under the names of Barbas Drugs and Dandy Drugs, was originally founded by Mr. Barbas in 1948. Prior to 1969, he had expanded the business to operate a significant chain of drug stores and a wholesale drug and sundries distribution operation as president and principal shareholder of Dandy Drug Stores, Inc. In 1969 he sold the entire business to a New York Stock Exchange listed company where he became an executive officer and director. Mr. Barbas founded York Properties in 1971 and has since been involved in the real estate business on a full time basis. He has had extensive experience in the acquisition of numerous apartment communities and has also developed mobile home communities and commercial properties. As owner of York, Mr. Barbas has managed the real estate operations in which he has been involved. Sidney Barbas graduated from Wayne State University (formerly Wayne University) in 1944 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and has been a registered pharmacist in Michigan.
