Dorothy Schechter HoytDorothy Schechter Hoyt, 92, of West Bloomfield formerly of Boynton Beach, FL, died after sunset on 11 September 2014. The Memorial Service was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL on Sunday, 14 September 2014 at 2:00 PM . Rabbi Daniel B. Syme and Cantorial Soloist Rachel Kalmowitz officiated. The family of Dorothy Schechter Hoyt will be gathering through the evening of Tuesday, September 16 at the residence of Larry and Kim Schechter, 32120 Baintree, Farmington Hills MI 48334. The phone number is 248-553-4727. Religious services will be conducted at 7:30 PM Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings. Tuesday afternoon, the family will be at the Hechtman Apartments. The family requests that visiting take place from 6 PM to 9 PM on Tuesday at the shiva residence. Family members include: She was the beloved wife for 51 1/2 years of the late Joseph Schechter and the adored wife and traveling companion for 11 years of the late Ivan Hoyt. She is survived by her loving children, daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne (Stewart) Levin, Hope (Gene) Silverman, Lynne (Ed) Kirwin, Francine (George) Smiley and son and daughter-in-law Larry (Kim) Schechter. She was an inspiration to her 13 grandchildren Jordan Lowy, Todd (Taal) Hasak-Lowy, Adam (Shira Rutman) Lowy, Marla (Travis) Stills, Denise Silverman, Mary Reed, Sean (Vera) Smiley, the late Tara (Jeff) Pine, Ruth (Jon-Paul Salonen) Smiley, Jeremy (Linda Malima) Smiley, Carla Schechter, Noah Schechter and Joey Schechter. She adored and loved showing off her 17 great-grandchildren Ariel Hasak-Lowy, Noam Hasak-Lowy, Irit Rutman-Lowy, Micah Rutman-Lowy, Hayden Stills, Ava Stills, Evan Silverman, Sean Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Collin Reed, Hanna Reed, James Pine, Dallas Pine, Malte Salonen, Rya Salonen, Dylan Smiley and Jade Smiley. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will also be missed by Ivan’s children Harvey (Jan) Hoyt, Roger (Sandy) Hoyt, Joleen (Scott) Karson and their children and grandchildren. Dorothy was the daughter of Frank and Clara Birnbaum and was pre-deceased by her sister Laura Gray and her brother Lloyd Birnbaum. Before retiring Dorothy was the manager of the construction and maintenance division of Borman Foods and president of their credit union, a long time volunteer at Sinai Hospital and for the last 4 years the “Pearl Mesta” of Hechtman Apartments.
