Lillian “Lil” Erdeljan



Lillian “Lil” Erdeljan of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan , died on 11 September 2014.

The Memorial Service was held at Temple Beth El - DeRoy Sanctuary on Monday, 15 September 2014 at 1:30 PM .

Rabbi Daniel B. Syme, Rabbi Mark Miller and Cantorial Soloist Rachel Kalmowitz officiated. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.

The family of Lillian “Lil” Erdeljan will be gathering through the evening of Tuesday, September 16 at the residence, 4501 Lahser Road, Bloomfield Hills MI 48304. Religious services will be held at 7:30 PM Monday and Tuesday evenings.

The family requests that visiting begin immediately following the burial on Monday through 9 PM and from 6:30 PM to 9 PM on Tuesday.

Family members include:
Survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Aleksandar “Alex” Erdeljan; devoted children Robert Stakits, Gordana “Didi” (Steve) Johnston, Nicole (Stephen) London; cherished grandchildren Alexander, Michael and Katherine Stakits, Talia Johnston, Rachel and Jake London; sister of Gordana (Ralph) Margulis.

One of Metro Detroit’s most prominent philanthropists. Well-known in the community for her steadfast support of numerous organizations, including: Michigan Humane Society, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Karmanos Cancer Institute, Oakland Family Services, The Lighthouse, Cornerstone Schools, Cranbrook Academy of Arts and the Detroit Zoo. Lil chaired the Women's Health Expo and served on the Executive Boards of the following: Michigan Humane Society, Women’s Committee for Hospice Care, Karmanos Cancer Institute, Michigan Opera Theatre, and the Alzheimer's Association of Michigan. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah-Wizo and a member of the International Women's Forum. For her commitment to the betterment of the community, Lil was the recipient of numerous awards: Northwood University’s Distinguished Women’s Award, Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Heroes of Breast Cancer Philanthropy Award, Women’s Association of Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan In Celebration Award, to name just a few.

Born in Belgrade to the late Nikola Budimir and the late Larissa Budimir Toskovic, Lil’s family escaped the Communist regime to start a new life in Canada. She grew up, was educated, married and started a family in the city of Windsor. In 1990, a business opportunity for her husband, Alex, precipitated a move to the U.S. where they settled in Bloomfield Hills.

Compassionate and caring, Lil dedicated her life to helping others and made a positive impact on so many. She was respected and admired by her family and friends. She will be long remembered and dearly missed.
