Shirley Victor FinkelShirley Victor Finkel, 91, of Southfield, Michigan, died on 21 August 2014. The Memorial Service was held at IRA KAUFMAN CHAPEL on Sunday, 24 August 2014 at 10:00 AM . The family of Shirley Victor Finkel will be gathering through the evening of Tuesday, August 26 at the residence, 20935 Winchester Dr, Southfield MI 48076. The phone number is 248-353-4261. The family will be gathering immediately following the interment until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and from 2:00-8:30 on Monday and Tuesday. Religious services will be conducted at 7:00 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Shirley Victor Finkel was born in Detroit, Michigan Feb. 22, 1923 to Anya and Samuel Victor. She graduated in 1940 from Central High School in Detroit, attended University of Michigan and received her bachelor's degree in economics in 1944, on a campus of mostly women during World War II. Shirley married Marvin Finkel on June 8, 1947. After their four children were school-aged, Shirley studied at Wayne State University and received her teaching certificate in 1963. She taught at Oak Park schools for 27 years, first at Francis Scott Key School and then Frost Middle School. A beloved teacher, Shirley won a teaching award in 1968 sponsored by The Detroit News and nominated by students and parents. Shirley was a member of Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, and served on the board of Brandeis Used Book Sale for many years. She was a dignified, beloved and wise woman, dedicated to her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Finkel, her sister, Judith Stulberg, and her brother, Harold Victor. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Sanford) Flayer, Mark (Jan) Finkel, Sandra (Seth Warschausky) Finkel, and Larry (Rocco Marinaccio) Finkel; grandchildren, Jessica (David) Bigger, Micah and Gabe Warschausky; great granddaughter, Sophia Bigger, her sister, Harriet Goldberg, and her caretakers, Denise Abbott and Rahtina Williams.
