FUNERAL DETAILS
Miriam GarvilMiriam Garvil of Ann Arbor, MI, died on 12 July 2014. The Memorial Service was held at GRAVESIDE on Wednesday, 16 July 2014 at 2:00 PM . Rabbi Robert Dobrusin officiated. Interment at Beth Israel Memorial Garden in Arborcrest Cemetery, 2521 Glazier Way, Ann Arbor MI 48105.
Miriam (Zac) Garvil was born in Lodz, Poland in 1921. She is a holocaust survivor, having spent 4 years in German concentration camps. Her story is told in her biography, “I Have to Survive, Miriam’s Story”. She married Julian in 1948 in Paris where her son, George, was born in 1950. In 1952 the family moved to New York City. Miriam studied fashion design in Paris and New York City. In the early 1960’s she designed the staff uniforms for the New York City subway. Miriam also designed the attendant’s uniforms for the New York World’s Fair in 1964. The Garvils moved to Ann Arbor in 1977 to be near their son. Miriam loved music, art and traveling. French cooking was her specialty. When Miriam shared about her life, the sufferings and the joys, she was truly inspirational. She was preceded in death by her son, George and her husband, Julian.
